“The US Navy made profound impressions on my youth and my own evolution into later life. The experiences and shipmates I have known and the opportunities afforded me during my Navy years have granted me a life of pride, joy and hopefully, service to others.”
In summer, 2020, Pamplin, Virginia resident, Fred Hill, completed an account of his military career, “The Man behind the Mask Speaks: Grenada and Other Ports of Call” by Commander Hill, Nurse Corps, CRNA, US Navy.
As the title suggests, Fred served as a medical professional around the world, ending up in central Virginia where he continued to serve in a civilian capacity as Chief Anesthetist in a local hospital. He also has been an officer in the Farmville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7059, organizing fundraisers to help local veterans, trips to visit veterans at MaGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond, and meetings to help veterans obtain benefits earned by their service.
